Lovin' livin' & learnin'

Melon Baby

To start my project, I quickly decided to create a patch for my daughter, something that I could put on her backpacks and she grows up.

Here's some of my Pinterest inspiration:

Along with my pick from Apple Metal:

I began sketching some of the things my daughter likes, incorporating her name. And being only two, that includes food, animals, and overall cuteness.

She loves watermelon, and happened to be eating some recently, so that's the direction I chose.

Here's further sketch development:

Then using the pathfinder (and some new tricks I learned) I created the basic shapes, in addition to freehand pen-tooling the lettering.

Here's a progression of refinement and the addition of colour:

Here I decided that I missed some of the original variations of the shapes that I had sketched, and took a final step to make it less refined by manually adjusting the points and rotating it slightly.

The final!
