My name is Tom Matt and as the Founder of Boomers Rock, I’ve done all that and more.

At the age of 50, I began training for a body-building competition, having never done anything like that before. I placed third, which was pretty amazing considering how late in the game I started, but the ultimate reward was regaining the energy and healthful vigor of my youth. I swear that I feel twenty years younger. In fact, at the age of fifty-three, I feel better than I did at the age of thirty-three (I’ll expound on that later).

I spent the previous 20 years in a slow, steady decline toward poor health, thinking that the many advantages of youthfulness would sustain me. I was my own worst enemy.

Now I am the host of Boomers Rock, a talk show on radio stations in the Midwest, and I speak with experts on health, fitness, and finances every day. I ask them how we, the average Americans, especially those of the Baby Boomer generation, can improve the quality of their life. I talk with average Americans that have changed their life for the better. I want you to hear about those improvements and hear these stories.

My Story is Probably A Lot Like Your Story

I consider myself a very typical American of the Baby Boomer generation. In my youth, I thought I was invincible, and I partied like I would live forever. I enjoyed life so much that I almost killed myself doing it, and hardly remember most of that time in my life. I started to gain weight and lose the vital energy of my youth. I slowly squandered the wealth of my fitness, but I didn’t even realize it. Then I got sick a few years ago, ended up in the hospital with pneumonia, and came close to death once again.

I realized that I needed to take care of myself. I had a wife and two daughters, and I was risking leaving this earth before those girls were grown and settled into their own life. As I focused my energy on improving my fitness, my interest grew to where I became certified by the National Academy of Sports Medicine as a Personal Trainer.

I began writing about what I learned. I also began contacting authorities on brain health, fitness, and nutrition, and realized that there were aspects of improving health and fitness that weren’t covered by the typical diet and conditioning books available.

Most of the fad diets and fitness gimmicks miss the bigger picture.

You Have to Feed Your Brain, Fix Your Attitude, and Strengthen Your Mind

The most surprising thing I learned is how critical it is to eat the nutritional food your brain needs to thrive. The next most critical thing was how important it is to exercise your brain so that the neural connections grow stronger.

That’s right, your brain, spinal cord, and entire neural network can grow stronger if you eat the right foods and exercise your brain by learning new skills and challenging yourself. You also have to feed your brain with the right mindset for success.

That’s three things you have to do correctly, but the good part is that you will immediately experience the benefits once you begin. It builds up over time, but the benefits start if you work to improve your life.

And it won’t feel like work. It will feel good.

Some people think that the point of living is to retire and doing nothing, but that will hasten the aging process for most of us. It may lead to poor health, medical bills, and further stress. The point of living is to enjoy the life we have right now, and the best way to do that is to improve our quality of life, starting now.

I squandered my youth on dangerous habits and became an alcoholic. Now I want to share the many lessons I have since learned because I believe that the Boomers Rock lifestyle can help you as a person, improving the quality of your life, which will ultimately help America.
