Mary

From Spoon River Anthology, I chose the to write about the story of Mary McNeely (pg.56), whose anthology hit something inside me (cheesy as it may seem). I want to delve into ideas of dying alone but still in love, and tie in paternal love (connect to the story of William McNeely (pg.55). I want to make my audience feel the lack of hope and great desperation from this female character. I mainly love her first couple of lines:

PASSER-BY,
To love is to find your own soul
Through the soul of the beloved one.
When the beloved one withdraws itself from your soul
Then you have lost your soul.

(I want to end my short film with that same tone Mary's little intro ends in.)
