Marston's Maples

I work as a professional full time graphic designer and I want to improve my type skills. I feel like I've only scratched the surface of the magnitude of possibilities in typography, and I've been doing it for almost 30 years! As a designer of apparel graphics, mostly tee shirts, I've been able to utilize my illustration skills, which I also feel I've only scratched the surface of.

So I thought the perfect vehicle for this project was the maple tree in my front yard, my wife and kids and I tapped recently, and boiled down the sap to make our own maple syrup from. We live on Marston Street, and thus was born the name Marston's Maples. I thought, wouldn't it be cool, as a totally fun side project, to design a lable for this liquid gold.

I "borrowed" the M from the cool Michigan poster I found online, which I hope is an old piece of ephemera

I'm only at the beginning of this process and am giving myself plenty of time to really sink my teeth in and have fun with it.
