Mark Making!

Mark Making! - student project

This class surprised me because I started the class thinking it was something I needed. Feeling a bit like a "have to". But I have to say it was quite enjoyable. My lines were tentative at first, as I wanted it to look good. Then it becomes quite meditative and I found myself just doing. A nice place to be. AND I did notice a lot of improvement and confidence built during the course.

Jen, the teacher, has tons of information and a lot to teach with various types of mark making, tons of tips, great instruction and even presenting work by the masters and some modern artists who use pen and ink.

I find myself very inspired to continue to practice and learn from others work.

Just when we get used to the pen, similar exercises with a brush!

This last one includes a sketch that I did with a piece of coral and flower using the techniques from the class. I can see where I went wrong with the lines in the flower. Next time I will keep with the brush to keep a softer look. Even so, I'm still happy with the result. And I know that with practice I'll figure this out. Now I have more in vocabulary for creating.
