Margaret Mitchell's Gone With the Wind

2/1014

I took a day away from my book cover and came back to it this morning with fresh eyes. Thanks to comments made, I changed a couple things. I ended up going with the green and gold color scheme mimicking the "curtain dress" Scarlett wears in the story. All in all, I'm pretty happy with how it turned out! Thanks for taking a look!

Here is the first digitized sketch. Maybe I've just been looking at it for too long, but there's something about it I'm not loving. Suggestions?

Gone With the Wind is like my first true literary love. My husband gave it to me for Christmas one year. I think if he knew how swept up I would become in this story, he would have thought twice. I cried and moped around the house for a week after finishing it. It left me raw and hurting. One of the few books that has ever done that to me.

My inspiration for these sketches comes from the sumptuous costumes in the GWTW film starring Vivian Leigh and Clark Gable. Scarlett's gowns are a work of art, and I knew I wanted to incorperate them somehow. The book talks a lot about Scarlett's green eyes, and in the movie, we see her in a beautiful white gown with green ribbon at the Wilke's barbeque. I've based a few of my sketches around that particular gown. I would love to hear feedback, or suggestions! Thanks for taking a look!

Messing around with some ideas. Obviously, my lace sketching needs some work. :)

one last sketch for the day. Same conmcept as a previous one, but a lacy pattern on the M and no blossoms on the sword.
