Mapping the Waterfalls of Hamilton

Hamilton, Ontario has been my home for the last 10 years, and my favourite part of the city is our ecosystem. Among the trails and the escarpment, there is estimated 126 watefalls and cascades within our city's borders. For my project I would like to create a map identifying the location of these waterfalls.

Quick facts about Hamilton, Ontario, Canada:

- Hamilton is located in Southern Ontario off of the Western part of Lake Ontario
- Hamilton's population is over 500,000 citizens
- The Niagara Escarpment runs directly through the middle of city
- Total waterfalls discovered within the city is 126

Why am I making this map? For fun? A client? A gift? To showcase my favourite places? Etc.

As a personal project, I would like to create a map that reflects the things I love most about my city.

Why am I the expert to create this map?

Even though I am a transplant to this city, I've grown to love and appreciate it. Plus, I love to design!

What level of detail do I need to include?

I would like to keep it fairly simple, only including the main and nearby streets, the escarpment ledge and using icons to mark the location of each waterfall. I would like to use separate icons to distinguish the waterfalls into 3 main categories: Cascade, Ribbon and Tiered.

Do I want my final project to be printed or digital? How is it going to be used/held? What other constraints do I need to keep in mind moving forward?

This map is be a printed poster that can be used as a piece of art.
Constraints, would be size and trying to simplify details so it does not look cluttered.

Below are photos of a few examples of the wateralls I will be mapping.
