Map of where my cat Smudge hangs out in the apartment

UNIT 1: Brainstorming, Inspiration and Sketching

Why am I making this map?

This is just a warm up on getting the map visualisation going, I'd like to complete a map of my favourite places in Macau. I've also created a Pinterest board for inspiration! LIke how my cat has made the new apartment home, I've made a list of my favourite places and comfort zones in Macau and I'd like to map it all out.

Why am I the expert to create this map?

Because I've been commuting the last 2 years from HK and living here the last 8 months and getting lost. I speak Cantonese and often get recommendations of secret spots from locals.

Who is my target audience?

Tourists who like to go off the beaten path and see how locals live and where they hang out. This includes the market of day-trippers from Hong Kong.

What level of detail do I need to include?

I think these could be broad but interesting, I'd like to create an overall look and feel of space (Macau is small) but there are meandering little streets to discover vintage shops, cafés, local eateries etc and I'd like to represent those street with specific landmarks so it could be easily found, but might involve a great sense of adventure and exploration too.

Do I want my final project to be printed or digital?

Would love it to be printed, like a pocket map, luxe guide size, but fun and quirky, and personal.

****

My cat Smudge and I moved from a tiny 30sqm studio in Hong Kong to a 190sqm apartment here in Macau and we both got used to the luxury of space. She used to hide in the tiny built in wardrobe in Hong Kong and now she hangs out in every corner and space of our new home. Here's a map of her favourite spots.
