Visual Storytelling with Final Cut Pro X — Second Edition

Hey Ethan,It's great to see your story unfold, I like where you're taking it. The intro is really well done, I like the J cut with Dan's audio before you see him. The one thing I would personally stray away from that happens a few times throughout your video is fading to black in the same sequence. It feels appropriate to do between each carver (transitioning from Dan to Kevin, for instance) but feels a little out of place at the :14 second mark and at the :46 second mark since the audio goes with it and you're jarred out of the story for just a moment.Overall I really enjoy your clip selection and how you portray each carver. I thought the music you chose for the night footage fit strangely well. It was a nice juxtaposition against what was happening on the screen. I look forward to you really brining this all together with the final lessons this week.

I liked the way you weaved together the interviews. If you don't mind a suggestion - I would have probably liked to have seen Dan's face a bit sooner after he starts talking. Also, I thought the music for the 2nd half was a bit too mellow for such visually exciting scenes. Other than that, I thought it was interesting (esp considering I've seen this footage now like 100 times!).

Ethan: This is an awesome start. I like that you are experimenting this early on with titles and transitions, I have a feeling you'll really enjoy the next two weeks worth of lessons where we dive deep into both of those features. Your clip selection was well done and the combination of voiceover and b-roll flowed very nicely.
