Making A Zine: From Idea to Illustration

So for this project I was a little crunched on time due to some freelance work, but I really wanted to make something for my husband. Every year that we have been together (5 years total, 2 of which we have been married!) we create little letters to read at our anniversary dinner & then we go back and reread previous letters. Since this is a more personal letter to him, I will only share 2 of the 5 spreads- but they're my favorite ones anyway. :)

Before i started, I created a mind-map that sorted out everything that I wanted to say to Amar and sketched out some of the layouts and ideas that I had.

I wanted to reflect in this particular letter to my husband that I was tired of every year my letters saying "thanks for loving me even with my depression". I realized that I did this in every previous letter when I read through them last year and it was a great spark for me to change and to grow.

My main message for this letter was basically "hey, thanks for loving me and supporting me during my hard times, you have really helped me grow into someone who has less hard times & who is thriving." I felt really happy with the imagery that I used & how it came together.

I have made a few zines in the past, so this wasn't my first zine project! But this class was super awesome and helpful with realizing the different methods / places to look for inspiration / understanding how to organize and get down my thoughts when I make future projects. This one I made only two copies, but I hope to use some of the tips to make more projects with more copies in the future. :)

XO
