Make an accordion folded artist book

Course Description

In this course I will teach you how to make a classic accordion fold that can have an endless number of pages. It is not folded from a long piece of paper but from a series of v-shaped leaves that are glued together. Thus every page is made of doubled paper so you can draw on it with ink or watercolor and it won't get through. You can also slice through the paper or sew pattern on it and it won't be seen on the backside. Get creative!

If you want to dive into book binding and are looking for a traditional technique that is easier than sewing a book, yet modern and useful for art and creativity, this might be the class for you.

In the course lessons I will start with the characteristics of an accordion fold and show a few examples. After explaining the needed materials we will dive into the process of making. I will guide you step by step.

Student class project:

Craft part:
You will craft your own accordion fold in the format that is suitable for your art project / creative idea.
Art part:
You can turn it into an artist book, scrapbook, memo board, photo book or anything else you can imagine it for.
This is definitely the fun part after some accurate crafting: You can cut the paper to stick photographs or drawings in it (Zentangle drawings, watercolor etc). You can also draw on the paper or print, sew, glue stuff to it.
I will show you examples of what is possible. This can also be a great gift to someone to share memories, give away a small art project or inspire someone with small poems.
