James Dwyer

Creative Director

James Dwyer: I’m a designer and Creative Director in Detroit Michigan. I founded BIG JIM’S CONEY ISLAND in hopes of building a fun new urban streetwear institution.

STYLE: Fun, real and delicious. Relaxed urban streetwear fashion, inspired by one of Detroit’s corner stones, Coney Dogs : T-shirts, sweat-gear and sleepwear.

BACKSTORY: Last summer I created a streetwear line that parodied Disney and the city of Detroit. It sold well during a large event that lead to local skate and punk shops carrying the pieces. It was through those connections, I was made aware of AGENDA in New York. I heard Jeff Staple speak and decided to enter this contest . Since 1996, advertising has been a large source of inspiration. This has developed my trademark style which mixes an ad world feel with local flavor and urban streetwear style.

SPECIAL FEATURE: Though Coney Island is a neighborhood in New York, Detroit lays claim to the first Coney Island Hotdogs made. Opinions may vary on who made the first Coney Dogs and are not mutually exclusive. Anyway, enjoy em’. Thanks for stoping in. See you again soon.
