MIXED MEDIA BASICS: Making Hand Painted Paper

Hand painted papers are the perfect element to add texture and color to your mixed media art! Students will learn techniques for making hand painted paper with primary focus on using Gelli Plate printing. Class discussions will include the various ways painted paper can be use in mixed media art and collage projects. With some paint, a few simple tools and the guidance in this classy students will be on their way to making a colorful supply of hand painted paper. 


One- Gelli Plate in the size of your choice.

A supply of acrylic craft paint or acrylic artist paints in a variety of colors.

Stencils: Use whatever stencils you have on hand.

Mark making tools: consider gathering items with texture, like sponges, stir foam, rubber grippers, corrugated cardboard, etc.

Paper: Rice paper, printer paper

Optional: (Brayer and Burnishing tool)


Follow along with each of the steps outlined in the video and complete the assignments (TBD):

Assignment One:

Post your work in the project gallery as you progress through the class and post in the class "Community" any questions or for feedback.

Assignment Two:

Post your finished hand painted in the project gallery and share what you learned in the process along with what else you would like to learn in future classes about mixed media art. If you like the class please post a review and give it a thumbs up.
