Lumberjack Inspired Whiskey

New Sketch (june 11th) -- Scroll down!

PHASE I:

A year ago I designed a screen print that was Paul Bunyan inspired. I've been dying to design a liquor line in a similar style and I thought this class would be the perfect opportunity to explore this concept in a new way.

I'm going back and forth between a whiskey label and a wine label. I find humor in the idea of manly lumberjacks, sitting around a fire, drinking wine. But I love how whiskey bottles are designed and the color of whiskey would fit perfectly into the color palette I've been playing around with. Thoughts on whiskey versus wine label?!

I love the childish, caricatures in my moodboard. I also love the idea of pieceing together many drawings to create a pattern. As far as producing the bottle, I love the image coming through the back of the bottle. It creates a nice deth to the piece. I also like the idea of stamping my design onto a paper that wraps around the bottle or even on the actual label. It seems to fit the whole rustic, manly, crafty feel I'm aiming for. I plan to explore this more, once I break into sketches.

I'd love some thoughts and feedback :)

Thanks!

Kelsey

PHASE II:

Hello again. I'm in the process of sketching and getting ready to take these into Illustrator. I'm still sketching a 4th label in a similar style to the 3rd label design, (with the lumberjack). I feel there is a little more to explore. I thought I'd post to get some initial feedback on sketches. I decided to focus on a Maple Flavored Whiskey that is inspired by lumberjacks.

Feedback is greatly appreciated :)

PHASE III:

Thanks for checking out my project!

I haven't received much feedback since my sketching phase so I decided to start exploring on the computer. I'd love feedback on where I'm at or if you think I should go back and explore another idea.

Above - I've shown 2 different color schemes. My idea is to print on kraft paper (brown, recycled paper) because I think it will go nicely with the color of brown whiskey. I purposely designed it with the colors being slightly offset. I want it to give the idea of screenprinted, hand-crafted and unique.

I still like the "BLUE OX" label design so depending on feedback, that might be worth further exploration on the computer.

Feedback is greatly appreciated :)

Thanks!

Kelsey

UPDATE! - June 11th

I was encouraged to explore my "Blue Ox" concept further. I'm not entirely sure if I will get this cleaned up before the deadline (heading off to a European Vacation). But I'd love some feedback on the sketch and if you think I should get it in the computer.

Thanks!

Kelsey

PS - I'm thinking of putting it on a tall blue bottle! :)
