Love tattoo shows, hate tattoos.

The thing I love most about reality shows like Best Ink, Ink Master, Tattoo Nightmares, etc. is that they take the best of  the best tattoo artists and rip them apart.

Seriously...the judges are relentless. Most people would love to have even one of the worst tattoos on these shows.

My mom thinks tattoos are completely tacky. I don't disagree with her...for the most part. 99% of the tattoos I see on a daily basis are absolute garbage. Crappy line work, unrealistic, no attention to detail.

But there's something about these tattoo shows that gives me hope.

Maybe, just maybe, someday there will be a tattoo artist that does good enough work, that I will trust to get a tattoo from.

The point is...anyone permanently tattooing something on your body should pretty much be an amazing artist/expert in their field. Why else would you want something on you PERMANENTLY??

I'm a tattoo virgin, so I guess I just "don't get it," but I will say that no one ever gives me the stink eye for having a messed up dragon?koi?dog?wtf? on my arm. How many people out there are suffering from tattoo regret right now? "From the statistics of the Royal Naval survey, the most significant factor to emerge was almost certainly the incidence of regrets. Out of the whole sample, more than half admitted that they wished they had never been tattooed. In the married group, the figure rose to around 70 per cent." (Ronald Scutt, Art, Sex and Symbol, 1974, p. 179) Enough to keep tattoo laser removal specialists in business for a long time.

All I'm saying is, if you have to go to school to become a hairstylist, why not a tattoo artist? Let's raise the industry standards; not just to stop the spread of disease and for other hygiene purposes, but for all of us who have to look at your ugly...whatever that is.

Is that your kid, or a crackhead?
