Life is Flowers

For my project, I chose a phrase that I have used as my personal "slogan" for as long as I can remember.  To me, "Life is Flowers" represents happiness, hope and a promise of renewal and rebirth - and I thought that it was perfect for the flowing, freeform nature of brush lettering.

I have never done any sort of brush lettering and it is very different from my "typical" style.   It's a perfect time to try something completely new!

I worked on many, many, many practice sheets before I started my actual project.  Working with a brush pen is a lot harder than I thought that it would be!  My hand was super shaky when I was trying to make the thinner lines with less pressure on the brush.

I was eating Starbursts when I was working on this page :-)

My kids decided to show me their Shopkins collection when I was creating this page :-)

I practiced so much that my brush pen ran out of ink.

Then I created a lot of quick, sloppy sheets to work out how I wanted to write my final project.

I played with a few versions of my final project using draft lines to help me layout the design.

And finally ended up with this final version!

Here is the final version in a snazzy framed mockup :-)

Thank you very much for this class.  It was a lot of fun.  It's going to take a lot of practice to keep my lines from wobbling all over the place but I'm inspired to keep practicing!
