Life in Sliema, Malta

Hello all! My name is Antti and for the past two years I've had the privilege to live and work in two very different countries, Finland and Malta. At the moment I'm visiting Malta after being away for few months and trying to experience this tiny island through fresh pair of eyes. Although small, Malta has loads of character and very unique rough feel to it.

You can follow my #30DaysofMalta challenge through instagram for more (something I set up for myself to keep motivation high!): antti_k

Anyway, without further ado here's my selected four shots:

  • One candid shot

One mandatory pool pic I guess. The subject wandered into the shot and even decided to strike a pose for me.

  • One "Look-Up" shot

Architecture in Malta is crazy! Top of the building looks like that and below on street level is casually a lunch restaurant / pizzeria. I've been to the restaurant many times but never paid attention to rest of the building before. Sometimes all you gotta do is look up I guess.

  • One image showcasing motion (using blur)

Spotted this on the way back from grocerie store. I don't know what this place used to be (I'd like to think a small pub) but it was evident it had been there literally through the ages with its beat up facade. I stayed there around 5 minutes to shoot people passing by and I definitely liked these two subjects, mother and son.

  • One image taken at night (From the above three categories)

Trash pick up has to happen every night, otherwise the streets would be flooded with litter in no time. It takes a lot of time to operate such big trucks on these narrow streets, so usually the guys have to work until nightfall.
