Let's Get Naked - Shower Sign (hehe)

1.15.2014

Hey guys,

I'm obsessed with Dirty Dancing, what else is new? :) So, my phrase is going to be 'Nobody Puts Baby in a Corner' from the infamous final scene.

It's kind of powerful and gives me strength at weak moments.

Below, I jotted down some imagery words I associate with each word to help me get started (finally!)

Then, I gethered some reference material for lettering and application.

WARM UP #1

Here, I played with the word 'Nobody'. I try to be free with boundaries in the beginning otherwise I get stuck in one mind set. Used 'Letterology' and dafont.com for inspiration.

I struggle with variation and breaking away from what's comfortable. What are some suggestions to help improve that? :)

Yay for finding the compass! Due to the comments I received, I decided to play a bit more with the word 'baby'. I imagine it to be cutesy and fun. Here are the sketches for it.

Thanks for all your comments! I decided to do a little more research on the 60's typography since the movie 'Dirty Dancing' takes place in the 60's and recreated a mood board. I also stumbled upon typography within a shape and I think I will play with that in my sketches.

Sometimes, it takes three years for a person to get inspired again and pick up a long forgotten project!

Since then, a lot has changed but mostly I moved into a new apartment. Forget Dirty Dancing and the old quote.

I now need a witty sign for my shower as part of the decor and so I decided to take a completely different route and came up with this. What I want to work on is hierarchy and sizing to put emphasis on certain words. I'm wondering if the best approach is playing around in Photoshop or would you resketch by hand?
