Learning from Van Gough

Learning from Van Gough - student project

Learning from Van Gough - image 1 - student projectFor this project, I used gouache and I also worked off of an existing Van Gough painting to practice the style of his work. I look forward to completing this project prompt once I can get a headshot I like, to work with! I really enjoyed the advice of looking at Van Gough's subject's hair, clothing, skin tones (olive green as a shade? New to me!).

I began by adding a watered-down wash to separate the different areas of this piece. I really struggled with the clouds, so I did end up painting the whole sky blue, and adding in white later.

In the future, I'd like to get oils to try this with, and also use Van Gough's painting style on a portrait!
