Learning brush lettering

This is my first project on skillshare :) I've never before done any kind of hand lettering so I decided to give it a shot :)

During the workshop I'll use these two brushes:

  • Marvy Uchida
  • Milan

Eventually, I mostly practice with Marvy Uchida beacuse my MILAN brushes were all in bed shape :(

I switched between 100g (bought in local shop with office supplies) and 120g paper (bought in Ikea). I also tried some paper dedicated for caligraphy (a friend gave it to me so I don't know specifics).

Impressions so far (practicing for 4 days):

I still have a problem with holding the brush. Hand hurts because I hold it to tightly. Then I'm trying to loosen it but having problems controling the stroke. So sometimes I have wobly lines.

I'm also afraid to press the brush to much and ruin it, but I'm aware that I need to press it to get a thicker line. Any advice how to find balance?

I'm aware that composition could be better, but it's was quite an adventure writing big letters.

That's it from me for now .. all that is left is ..  practice practice practice :)
