Le Bourgeoisie au Grand Royale

Hi!

My name is Andy Piver and I'm a writer/illustrator from East Hampton NY.

I have been wanting to explore pen/brush and ink work for some time (I do pencil renderings usually and ball point pens are my guilty pleasure).  Seeing Ms Shimizu's art and class inspired me to get down to work...

The idea for this project came from a live draw event I did for People Say NY...a local open mic, art and comedy night here locally in the Hamptons.  There is a huge dicotemy betweent the "haves" and the "have nots" here in this resort community...I work as a server at one of the most exclusive restaurants here, so I see the waves of excess that wash over this community each summer.

This was the original panel I did at People Say NY...Golden Liquid High Flow Arylics on wood panel...this drawing was done spontaneously at the event...only a few ideas bouncing around my head...no prelims, nuttin...

My next deadline was a show this coming weekend (im dropping off the panel today!) for the Tonic Art Group and the Amagansett Historical Society...The show is called Grand Royale and I was originally going to submit an older painting I did a few years ago...but the painting for the live draw was still resonating with me...so I started drawing...

I painted the background in florescent pink Golden High Flow...then projected the drawing onto the panel and masked the foreground in a layer of white paint..

I projected my photoshopped drawings onto the new panel and then spent the next 10 hours inking in the lines...

final...
