Launching my Creative Small Business

Hi, I'm Kam and this is my project:

I started my blog, Campfire Chic, nearly 3 years ago, but this year will be the year that I take it from blog to business and brand. I'll be using this space to develop my project for Campfire Chic.

A little about my brand: Campfire Chic is my story as a crafty camper. I share my story as a 9-5er looking for adventure and a handmade life. The posts I share encourage readers to take risks and try new things, like camping, rock climbing, and yoga, while maintaining their current interests and responsibilities. Campfire Chic is about accepting challenges, setting achievable goals, and documenting the journey toward the finish line. (From CampfireChic.com)

The Campfire Chic blog target audience is made up of female bloggers and blog readers between the ages of 18-35 looking to be more organized and productive, with an emphasis on digital resources. The target audience is interested in being memory keepers and more active outdoors, despite a tight time budget.

My readers focus most of their online time on Twitter, Instagram, Pinterest, lifestyle and craft blogs, secretly reading GOMI (get off my internets), and stream most of their television and movies on their laptops/tablets. They enjoy scrapbooking/memory keeping, blogging, connecting with others, following health/diet trends (like gluten-free, paleo, vegan) that other bloggers promote, making projects they find on Pinterest, and being connected to the internet. They do not like confrontation, waiting for responses, change, bullies, or captchas

My long-term goal for Campfire Chic is to be able to work on my brand full-time - blogging, creating content and new products, going into the field to test gear for reviews, and becoming more involved in the outdoor industry. I would like to use Campfire Chic as my main hub while working with outdoor brands on community management.

The current weaknesses of Campfire Chic:

  • I am not able to dedicate the time I would like to Campfire Chic for financial reasons: I work full-time outside of Campfire Chic in order to pay off some loans, rent, and bills.
  • Too many ideas - Campfire Chic is a fairly lifestyle blog with a strong focus on a few different topics and some of my target audience may be turned off by that
  • Broken links - I recently migrated my site from Blogger to Wordpress and a number of links broke in the process. Incoming traffic is down due to those broken links and the interlinking I did prior to the migration needs to be update - again, TIME
  • The current strengths of Campfire Chic:

  • Brands have recognized that I am a brand ambassador and fairly influential with certain products
  • I respond to inquires and correspondence on my own and within 24 hours
  • A great community of readers and contributors
  • Social reach
  • I would like to continue to connect with Campfire Chic readers through online channels like Google Hangouts, private Facebook Groups, Twitter chats, and Skype.

    While I have met a few readers and partners offline, I feel like some ways I can connect with larger groups would be through: "Tweetups" at local craft fairs or comic book conventions, booking trail restoration projects with enough spaces for readers, and securing discounts for outdoor clinics that will interest Campfire Chic readers.
