Product of Choice: Spectacles / Eyewear

I decided to choose a product that is currently really lacking on creativity in its market right now. I just bought new glasses and as usual there are beautifully crafted frames burried in the sea of mediocrity. I find that eyewear brands (even the super expensive) haven't made the jump to stand out with unique packaging or labelling.

I think it'll be great to handcraft a label and package design with as much care as some designers put into their frames

Because of their fame, history and beautiful design, I'll be labelling Oliver People's Gregory Peck glasses (below).

Loving the whimsical typography and flourishes on this package. Also the simpicity in colour.

Also diggin' the illustration style above. Simple and retro. I'm wanting to move in a psychic, illusionist, black magic sort of direction. Looking for images to suit that now.

I love the colours and the shooting rays of light that make "Fresh Lemonade" shine.

Sketches:

#1: I'm leaning towards putting a wrapping tag on the arm and possibly illustrating an eye for the lens. I think putting an eye behind the sunglasses lens will be interesting as it will be subtle due to the tint. We'll see! Yes the 'c' in Peck looks lke an 'a' - I'd fix that if this makes the cut. Looking at it - I think gold foil on black would look elegant.

#2: Just another quick layout idea.

#3: Sketching some type ideas.. wondering if I should reference "To Kill A Mocking Bird" - the movie that made these specs sort of famous.

Using the many elements I've been drawing over the last few weeks I laid them out in a way the utilize the entire tag shape I decided on. I'm really liking the knockout on black. Now to make a back.
