LEO Wörterbuch

Hi  :)

After watching this class and seeing the "animal theme" for a logo, I've decided to redesign a logo for an online german dictionary called LEO, something I've been wanting to do for a while now, which I'm proposing to them. I know it's not a restaurant, but I figured it would be ok. And this is what happened:

LEO's current logo: Feel the drama.

abf91bf5

Inspiration: The dictionary was created by a team from an University in Munich (Bavaria), so I reckon their logo is inspired on the bavarian crest:

Munich has all these lion statues all around the city, so it would make sense to maintain the lion in the logo. Keeping in mind the reference to the german origin of the dictionary, I wanted their logo to look more related to languages, since it's a dictionary's purpose: communication.

Research: Logos using lions

Concept: Visually simplifying, and applying some Gestalt principles like closure and similarity to translate LEO's concept, I tried to make the company's image more updated and less childish:

Colored:

Logo variations: The symbol can be slightly altered according to necessity and combined with words associated with further services, that aren't dictionary: language courses, vocabulary trainer and forum. This would make the logo more flexible and add fun/fresh feel to it:

Also possible to use a signature without the lion, if necessary, by deconstructing the logo:

That's it. I hope it wasn't TOO off topic... What do you guys think? :)
