Kelps

A day late to upload my work for the 1st step of the project. But I hope I haven't missed my chance at winning the prize :)

BRAINSTORMING

I'm a bit obssessed with underwater world, so my list is: underwater life, fish, corals, shells, sea kelps.

I chose kelps for this project.

WATERCOLOURED MOTIF

Out of all kelps I sketched I selected 5 most distinct from each other.

DIGITISED + VECTORISED MOTIFS

I had some extra time today and decided to go with the 2nd part of the project. So here are my vector kelps.

PATTERN 1

Design No.1 on blue background. It looks too empty so I think I'll later add some shells or pebbles to fill in a few spaces.

ADJUSTED PRIMARY PATTERN + LINEAR PATTERN + more colours in BG

I didn't want to start everything from beginning just to fill in the empty spaces, so I doodled some shells and pebbles and used a few scanned watercolour textures from my texture folder. I then created these guys, out of which I only the first two.

Here's the adjusted pattern with a few BG colour variations.

And another variation of the pattern itself.

I think the linear pattern looks even better than the original one. So, yay!, my first finished pattern! I'm quite happy with the result, considering how difficult kelp shapes and their natural muddy colours were to manage into a pleasant looking pattern.

Thanks Jenn, it was a fun project! :)
