Just Because

I decided to make a card that says "Just Because".

Because sometimes it's nice to receive a card in mail from someone "just because".

Stage One: Style Auditions.

I just hand-lettered a bunch of different styles on paper as my "Style Audition" before I decide which style(s) to pursue. Stay tuned, more to come!

Stage Two: Hand Lettering and Animation Sequence

I have decided on this type below and hand-lettered on paper

For the main part of the animation, I will have the word "because" fall on water then bounce a little

Stage Three: Digitizing

Stage Four: Animating

This is one of my concepts

Here is another direction

Stage Five: Starting Over

I wasn't very satisfied with the hand-hand lettering aspact of the 1st iteration. It seems like it lost some charm when the letters have been digitized and traced. And the style that I chose didn't convey the lightheartedness of the phrase "just because" so I started over. Had to admit that it's hard to find time to do this with my job and other duties. But I am definitely happier with this new direction below.

here is the process

and here are some screenshots in AE, I tried to stay as organized as I can, and it did save me plenty of time. Big shout out to Jake's another class Animating With Ease in After Effects, I was able to apply what I learnt from that class to this project as well. :)

And here is the final version

Thanks for the wonderful class, Jake!
