Jennie - Personal Logo

This class arrived at the perfect time, while I'm trying to rebrand myself (after changing my last name) and create a new logo for my portfolio! Super awesome. I've been practicing modern calligraphy and brush lettering for the past year — making my lettering digitial is the next step!

09.24.2015 // Today's my birthday and I spent a few hours trying to write my name over and over in different ways.  I tried using different pens, but I like the look of my Pentel Aquash brush best. I need to get some cooler brush pens!  After about 20 pages, it seems that my personal handwriting form looks better straight than oblique. I also tend to like really thick downstrokes, which matches my style when I'm doing modern calligraphy with a flexible nib.

09.28.15 // Composing in Photoshop. I highlighted all my favorites and scanned them. Now I'm putting together all of my favorite characters! This is so fun!

Here's my "sketch" layer! I like the watercolor look of it.

09.29.2015 // Vectorizing in Illustrator. This was the hardest part for me. I need more practice creating the horizontal and vertical bézier curve handles. How do I learn this? I'm also disappointed that my version of Illustrator does not have the live corners plugin. :(

Here's a series of progress photos. :)

I'll try to find a tutorial on perfecting my bézier curves / handles so I can improve this even more. :)

09.29.15 //  Here are some great Illustrator Bézier Curve tutorials I found!

After staring at my result from last night, I'm going to start all over and try again, this time trying to place the points at the correct places, and also making the downstroke a bit thicker, since that is my personal style of lettering.

09.29.15 // I understand how to use vertical and horizontal bezier curves now!

Original Attempt:

Second Attempt:

For some reason I still like the original one. I didn't have as much time to spend on the second attempt, but I did the bezier curves the correct way in that one, and it just doesn't seem to flow as well as the other one. I also traced the elements differently the second time around. But overall I'm happy with both of my results! :)
