Jazzamatazz  - student project

I love the style and panache of the 1920's, in particular the fashion. Working with sketch book illustrations I previously created with black inking and watercolour brush pens, I formed this repeat pattern. Sticking to a simple palette of desaturated colours, that were popular back then.

I adore the way you can change the mood of a pattern with alternative colour ways. When I look at the plum coloured version, I imagine evening cocktails in a jazz club. In contrast I picture summer afternoons at the greyhound races, when I gaze at the yellow version. I changed the colour of the flower motifs for these colour ways, as it worked better with the background colours.
