Iron Council crest

Iron Council crest - student project

I have been meaning to make a crest/mark/logo for my World of Warcraft guild for a while now, and this project seemed to be the perfect project for it!

Our guild consists of people from mostly Northern Europe, namely Norway, Sweden and the UK. In order to come up with a good selection of symbols that represent all of us, I had to do some creative thinking. I knew I wanted weapons of some sort to represent the different classes we play, and the name of the guild.

I started by looking for some inspiration, various shapes for the crest itself, simple weapons etc.

I decided to test out the techniques used in the video, so laurels and a banner.

More tests.

Then, after deciding on a shape I liked (the shape reminds me of a shield, again fitting with the game thing), I started making details and things to put into the crest. Various weapons, the Horde logo.

Placing the items into the crest, trying out different positions. After trying to shrink the crest like suggested in the video, I realized the items were too small to be hollow, so I made them solid. I also wanted to somehow incorporate druids into my design (because we have several) and decided to try out antlers instead of laurels after seeing some cool and interesting alternatives to laurels.

I decided the weapons looked too slim on their own, so I wanted to add some different aspects to the crest. We all communicate via headsets, so I created one of those, and because of our many brits there is a lot of talk and consumption of tea, hence the tea mug. I also wanted to have a bit of fun with it and my teammates, so I added a pile of salt, because what is a gaming guild without some salty people, right? In the end I preferred the combined weapons as well, so here is my final (for now) mark

Im enjoying the process so Im sure I will change it up!

Edit: I also made a simple version for smaller sized images, as the fuller version wasn't showing up as well on our chat program
