Intuitive Self Portrait

Intuitive Self Portrait - student project

These exercises seem so simple, but were so eye-opening for me. This class has helped me to get rid of my "blank page scaries" and become more comfortable just going for it in my sketchbook.

:: Drawing With Your Less Dominant Hand ::

My left hand is my less dominant hand. This came out much better than I thought it would. I'm usually pretty meticulous and detailed with my drawing, so I loved how loose and freeing it was. I  may start drawing with my left hand from now on. I also LOVED the advice of drawing from your camera or mirror instead of a photograph.

:: Drawing With Your Eyes Closed ::

 One of my favorite exercises. I love that every one is unique.

:: Drawing From Feeling ::

I used the iPad for this exercise so I would be able to erase mistakes. I guess I still have some work to do there. This exercise was the most difficult for me. I'm not super confident on my style, so I over analyze before I even start drawing.

Then I realized the point of this class is to overcome that, so I started drawing with my eyes closed and it got there in the end. I am happy with the final portrait. I tried it in a few different colorways because I couldn't help myself. Thanks for the great class, Amber. It has helped me so much already.

:: Final Portrait ::

I finished the portrait with my eyes open and chose  my favorite color combination. There was a vase of tulips in front of my mirror, so I made sure to incorporate those.
