Into the Glimmer

Into the Glimmer is my running and fitness blog that I use to talk about workouts, running and races, recipes, food, and Charleston. I've been blogging there for about 2 years (when I started my running journey). Previously, I’ve attempted to use it to post outfits and style or design inspirations, but those posts always feel off, so I’d like to refocus and make it solely about fitness, food, and life in Charleston, and I’ll move my creative/design posts to my jewelry business blog (eventually).

Categories include: Running, Racing, Paddleboarding, Fitness Tracking (barre, madabolic, orangetheory, other classes),  Food, Charleston, Journal (for the random life lately/recent snapshot posts that don’t fit elsewhere)

I've been blogging here for a while, but I'd like to redesign the blog in addition to planning my content. Here is the moodboard I created for my blog, along with the color palette.

Here's a screenshot of my updated blog design based on my moodboard and other requirements:

WHAT IS MY PURPOSE?

  • Document my running and fitness journey, as well as track and share my progress and goals
  • Share race information about races I've done in Charleston and Charlotte (or any other location I go to race)
  • Live/showcase the beach life in Charleston and share about fun things to do and see, and places to go in this city
  • Share my paddleboarding and surfing adventures
  • Give myself a creative outlet (one of my many)
  • Take and edit more pictures, even if I just use my iPhone to take them
  • Write more
  • Document/journal for nostalgia purposes
  • Connect with other runners in the local running community, as well as other running bloggers or runners outside of the Lowcountry
  • Share food and recipes
  • Help inspire other runners who also have busy lives outside of their running hobby, but still want to stay fit and run

MY AUDIENCE

BLOG STYLE

Here are my five words/pairings. I think "friendly" is a perfectly acceptable word and didn't really have anything I wanted to change it to.

Want/Don't want

Energetic/Agressive

Happy/Goofy

Informative/Stuck-up

Honest/Harsh

Friendly/na

Energetic - Aggressive = Lively

Happy - Goofy = Upbeat

Informative - Stuck up = Helpful

Honest - Harsh = Authentic

Friendly

My blog style

Lively, Upbeat, Helpful, Friendly, Authentic

MY SMART GOALS

I kept my goals fairly conservative because I just had a baby and life with a newborn can get pretty crazy!

  1. Post at least one blog post per week
  2. Gain 50 new subscribers by the end of 2014
  3. Get at least one sponsor or ambassadorship by mid-2015

------

MY BRAND STATEMENT

Into the Glimmer is an upbeat, friendly, and authentic blog focused on providing content about my personal running and fitness experience to recreational female runners, mother runners, and aspiring or beginner female runners so that I can connect with other runners both in the local community and other running bloggers or runners outside of the Lowcountry

Why am I doing this?

I want to:

  • Share/document my running and fitness journey
  • Help inspire other runners who also have busy lives outside of their running hobby, but still want to stay fit and run
  • Showcase the beach life in Charleston and the fun things to do here
  • Give myself a creative outlet

By putting in the effort to develop quality content on a regular basis, I plan to:

  • Post at least once a week
  • Gain 50 new subscribers by the end of 2014
  • Outreach: Comment and interact with other running bloggers at least 5 times a week
  • Get at least one sponsor or ambassadorship by mid-2015

 -------

CONTENT PILLARS

  • Event and training posts (race reviews and workout logs)
  • Charleston-based information - run routes, events (non-races), restaurants, shops, the beach, etc.
  • Product reviews (fitness and running related products)
  • Journal (life lately, recent snapshots, parenthood, etc)

PUBLICATION CHANNELS

Twitter

Facebook

Daily Mile

Pinterest

Blogher (eventually)

PUBLICATION FREQUENCY

At least once a week

ROLES

As of right now, this is a one-woman effort - I do all of the content strategy and planning, copywriting, design, and proofreading. I don't really see this blog moving beyond just me since it's about my personal journey.

-------

EDITORIAL CALENDAR

Rather than using the Google spreadsheet, I'm using KanBanFlow.com. My blog is pretty simple and I'm the only one producing content, so I just need something easy to keep me organized. I can color code KanbanFlow into different types of tasks for my blog, too, like design tasks, in addition to the editorial calendar.
