Inspired by Creatives

Not a creative (noun) myself, but I'd like to think I can be creative (adj.) and I like the impact all these creatives and their courses on Skillshare are having on me.  It's a different way of thinking and looking at the world and that inspires me and allows me to get out of my own, more analytical thinking box.

What moves me?  What do I want people to do?

I want people to realize that they can do a much better job of learning from their experience if they take the time to pause, reflect, and document what they think they've learned and what they want to do differently moving forward.  We've all been in situations where we recognize that we are repeating the same mistakes over an over again.  Only 8% of people who make New Years' resolutions actually meet their goals.... year after year.  Why are we doing it and not learning? Either you give up on making resolutions or you figure out how to make them stick.  I want to help people with the learning process, make people a little more reflective.

Einstein said that the definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results.  We're not insane, we're mostly lazy thinkers.  We don't spend much time processing our own experience.

One project that combined my analytical brain with a bit of fun and creative spirit was an exercise for a course.  The exercise was to create a little alphabet of words related to learning.  I turned it into a concept map because that's just the way my brain works.

In a class that I am currently developing for SKILLSHARE, I will introduce people to insight mapping, a simple technique for eliciting and document insights from experience.

I currently have a very good full time job but I'm planning to transition to full-time independent consulting at some point in the near future so I'm slowly building the networks, the personal branding, the social presence. This class was a nice overview of all the things I've been doing.  As a matter of fact, this is the 4th or 5th class on SKILLSHARE that has been quite useful in helping me think through this transition and what I really want to do.
