Ink Brush Self Portrait

First of all, thanks Andrew for creating this class. I liked that it was short and sweet while still pushing me out of my comfort zone.

I love drawing but usually stick with subjects I know and equipment I feel safe with. You can see some of my work here on my Facebook page. But lately I haven't produced anything new because I had begun feeling like what I was producing, while technically okay in terms of realism, had no real 'style' or personality.

Now I'm on a mission to try as many different new and challenging things as I can, hoping that along the way something distinctly 'me' will become apparent.

That's why this class appealed to me - "adventure ... personal, style", yes ploise. So here I am ready to learn and here is the result ... and I am definitely out of my comfort zone. I'm using brush and ink, when I would normally use Staedtler ink pens. I'm drawing a portrait when I normally steer clear of humans, especially myself. And I'm drawing without looking at my subject! Eeek! NEVER do that. I don't know how much I've achieved in terms of style, but I did discover that using a brush is much more organic and open to spontaneous line than pen is.

So again, thanks Andrew! A very enjoyable class.

By the way, I've never liked the weight of paper in sketchbooks, so I buy the type of paper I like and make my own sketchbooks! I made a Skillshare class showing how to do this, check it out if you're interested.
