I have brought you something

I'm making a title poster to go with a piece I'm putting up in a gallery this February. The piece consists of four wall hangings appliqueed with a total of 101 small embroidered squares. Each square contains a couple of words that reference a story from my life that I spoke out loud and recorded.

The name of the piece is "I Have Brought You Something." That's also the name of one of the stories. The story is about a time when I was in Peace Corps and visiting the home of some relatives of a friend of mine. When I arrived, I taught the kids in the family the English phrase "I have brought you something," which I used when I presented them with gifts. Over the course of a few days visiting I got very sick with dysentery. I was lying in a hut on my deathbed, and the kids came in with a scrawny chicken that was a gift from the neighbors. They carried it over to my bedside and proudly said "I have brought you something." It was adorable, appropriate and hilariously absurd, given how sick I was (and that I was a vegetarian.)

I'd like the poster to capture the idea of a gift, and also somehow be reminiscent of chickens. For research inspiration so far I have looked at pictures of vintage egg crates and vintage chocolate boxes. I want the overall look to be festive and playful and tactile.
