First off, thanks for the lovely class, Kate! I love your voice and your advice and your humor and your dogs.
I was searching for the right gouache class and as soon as this one started, my heart clicked into place.
The tips from this class were perfect. I was terrible at gouache:
1) mixing my palettes on a flat palette board instead of making little tubs (the tubs are a lifesaver!)
2) not getting the paint the right consistency
3) overworking the paint, which was lifting up the under-paint
4) using brushes that were too small
For my project, I started out actually doing the assignments I swear:
But when I went outside, everything was pretty much already dead for fall. I was uninspired.
So I drew some bright vintage toys instead:
I also embraced the spirit of the season:
Am I great at gouache? No.
Do I have some fundamentals that'll help if I bothered to practice? Yes.
