I'm not weird

Ok, so I've been gone way to long! My goal was to finish this project during winter break and now I am at spring break and the time has just gotten away from me! I wanted to post my most recent draft and the one I want to go with. Any thoughts or suggestions would be much appreciated!

*MOST RECENT Update above, remainder below in order*

I've always been told that art was a hobby, not a career. However, art and creativity has been my passion and so I've decided to start over. I am going back to school for graphic design and I am really hoping that I can pursue something in typography and illustration. This whole creative process is foreign to me and I am desperately in need of the guidance on how to go about putting together my thoughts and designs, and it is about hand written type, yes!

But, pause, rewind, let me explain a little more about my phrase, "I'm not weird, I'm a limited edition". I work in public accounting, yes accounting, it's about as thrilling as you can imagine and I've always struggled to fit in, I'm not the average stereotypical accountant. I'd rather doodle than read accounting guidance, I find ways to express myself at work and show my creativity if I can. I'm often considered weird, odd, quirky, and unique at work. Alot of my co-workers and clients don't necessarily understand my personality and need for art, and I am fine with that, but I don't think it makes me weird. The things I'd love to do if I could, but frankly no one trusts a tattooed, pierced, colorful hair, and funkily dressed accountant. I mean how much self expression can you have in a pant suit? Yes, I am the weird one at work, no I don't like numbers, I hate taxes just as much as the next person, but I can do all that stuff and have been for 6 years. But now I am trying to figure out how to make my new life plan work, and then I can soon say I am a recovering accountant graphic designer, I'm a limited edition :-). So that is why I chose the phrase, it's my motto right now.

Going through the word brainstorm was a little hard for me at first. I approached more from what do other's think? But then I tried to change it to what do I think, and how do I want to convey my thoughts to my audience. I kind of wanted to look at it from a accountant me to a new designer me, what are people in my everyday life telling me is weird, odd, unique about me? Or what would standout in my current career as being weird that I like and I think makes someone unique and expressive? See below.

Granted, I probably got a little off topic and random, and quite frankly not sure if I would integrate some of those words, but the whole idea is to just put them out there and get the creative juices flowing, right?

So from there I started thinking about what I was trying to convey and how I would do that. So I selected some specific words and did some research to try and find some images that inspired me to help me continue to piece this thing together.

This is what I came up with. I want some classic, vintage elements with a modern hipster/grunge twist to it. I do still feel like it is a little jumbled and not exactly quite sure how I am going to put this together, but I think this will be a great learning process for me.

So stay tuned till your next exciting update! Oh, and please feel free to comment and leave criticism, I really would appreciate any feedback so I can learn!

Letter warm-up

This part was fun! Though I have a feeling I need to get better about using lines and guides so I am properly practicing. I am horrible at that kind of thing, I just like to sketch and play and then look back and maybe pick a few to get a little more detailed on. Here is what I have so far :-).

THUMBNAILS:

So I am having a hard time trying to figure out what I want to put in the layout. I've done several thumbnails, and tried to take a few that didn't seem as bad. I'm wondering if I am trying to put too much into my overall project? The idea I really like is having a Great Dane with hipster glasses, lip ring and earring, with some possible tattoos. The bike is like one of the drawings I saw and I'm trying to put my own spin on it by adding those items to the dog. But then maybe I should just have the dog seperate? UGH!!!! Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated. All the random ones I tried to make tattoo-y, but without some color and time for shading I'm not sure that is accurately depicted. Anywho, 3, 5, and 6 seem to be the best for what I am trying to do. I like 4, but feel like it is too simplistic for the whole "weird" theme. Any thoughts would be appreciated!

So I decided to keep sketching and working on my phrase, I am not really thrilled with the ones I had and I felt like I putting to much thought into the wrong elements. So I tried to take a step back and focus more on the lettering and I sketched alot more... here are a few that I think might have potential, please let me know what you think!
