I'll be Home for Christmas

I've been doing a self-given challenge of 50 days of handlettering. For one day, I did it all on the computer using what I learned in this class.

I built the "I" first from there, the "L", "E", and "O". Once those three were established, I mixed and matched pieces to make the rest of my letters. The "S" was hands down the hardest letter! The candy cane striping was made with a clipping mask.

Here are my guides all laid out. I also added a few diagonal lines later.

I wanted Christmas to be in a script format, like Spencer taught, but I'm just having a really, really, hard time understanding how to make it work.
