How to Photoshop Like a Pro

Have you ever seen a photograph that you love and realized it was photoshopped? Whether it was a complex composite image that looked realistic or a portrait that had been touched up to look amazing, chances are all the work to adjust the image was done in Photoshop. However, if you’ve obtained a copy of Photoshop and tried to do something similar on your own, you might have noticed just how complicated Photoshop can be to use.

Photoshop, like everything else, requires practice to learn photoshop. You’ll want to make sure you get the help you need to learn beginner and advanced techniques so you can learn how to make the images you like and how to adjust or alter the photos you take. When you’re ready to learn how to photoshop like a pro, you’ll want to use the adobe tutorials available to learn as much as possible. With the right help, you could master Photoshop and create your own images.

When is Photoshop Useful?

Most pro photographers use Photoshop for their work. Many graphic designers and other professionals who need to create images will use Photoshop. Photoshop can be used in limitless applications and anytime you need to adjust or alter an image to fit your needs.

Wedding photographers and portrait photographers will use Photoshop to adjust their images. They’re usually not using it for big changes, but they’re using it to make sure they have the exposure correct, to adjust the contrast in the photo or to erase small blemishes. Have you seen a model in real life and in photos? The differences in how they look are a combination of make-up and photoshop. They’re still beautiful, but photoshop can make them look flawless.

Graphics designers may use photoshop to alter images to fit their needs or to create a new image from scratch. Artists may use photoshop to create images and to change them to create what they have in mind. Photojournalists may even use Photoshop to an extent so long as they don’t do anything that could change the meaning of the photo or how it could be viewed by others

Don’t Be Afraid to Start at the Beginning

You’ve decided to learn photoshop, but once you open it up for the first time you’re a little overwhelmed by everything it can do. How do you learn which tool to use? How do you learn to adjust the tools and how to use them? There’s a lot you’ll need to know to start adjusting images, much less create your own.

You must start somewhere. Even if you’ve played around with Photoshop a little bit, you’ll want to start at the beginning when you’re ready to really master the skills. Beginner photoshop classes will include everything from how to open an image to how to save your finished image. You’ll learn the basics of all the tools and how to use them, and you’ll get more in-depth information about tools you’re likely to use frequently.

Take a Workshop to Start Learning Today

If you’re ready for comprehensive instruction to help you start working on mastering how to create the images you like, start taking your first workshop today. There are many different workshops available, so you’ll want to be careful to make sure you choose the right one for what you want to learn. Take time to look into your options and contemplate what they can offer you before choosing any workshop to try.

Once you’ve mastered the information in the beginner workshop, you can move on to more advanced adobe tutorialsWith more advanced tutorials, it’s important to consider which skills you want to master so you can find a tutorial that focuses on those skills instead of a more broad beginner’s course that touches on everything. Most of the advanced tutorials do assume you have at least a basic understanding of how to use Adobe Photoshop, so it’s a good idea to try these after you’ve completed a beginner course.

Look for Video Tutorials or Step-by-Step Instructions

As you look through the beginner workshops that are available, focus your consideration on those that include either video tutorials or step-by-step guidelines for the techniques and tools you’ll be learning about, or both. Find a beginner photoshop tutorial that gives you detailed examples of everything you’ll be learning.

Many tutorials that cover photoshop for students will use videos to teach the material. Videos are an excellent way to learn photoshop because they give you the chance to see, in real time, what the instructor is doing and how it impacts the image. You’ll be able to pause or rewind the video to watch a specific part over again to practice it on your own.

You may also want to check out tutorials with step-by-step instructions and photos of each step. While you won’t be able to watch the techniques in real-time, it’s easier for you to find what you’re interested in practicing and review the information and the photos to practice it on your own. Plus, you can likely print the information and keep it by your computer for when you want to practice later.

Both ways of learning enable you to really see what you’re being taught so you can try it on your own. This is far more helpful than just trying to read through some information on the computer and figure out how it all works. A thorough photoshop workshop will often include both videos and step-by-step instructions so you can print some of the material and so you can see it done in real-time. A workshop like this will offer you the chance to learn in a way that’s best for you so you can master the skills quickly.

Find Example Images to Use for Practice

Some workshops will include images you can use for practice, but not all of them. Additionally, the number of images provided will likely be limited. You’ll want to make sure you find other images you can use so you can practice as much as possible and master the skills you need to know.

With the internet, it’s incredibly easy for you to find images you can use to practice. Some websites specifically offer photos that you can use free of charge to practice photoshop skills that you’ll learn in a workshop. You can download as many photos as you might want and use the skill you’re learning in the photoshop workshop to work on the photos.

Create Your Own Images to Practice

Even though you’re looking into beginner photoshop tutorials to learn more, you may already be able to take photographs you can use in photoshop. If you have photos you need to retouch or you want to edit, go ahead and use them while you’re practicing. If you don’t make the photo the way you want, you don’t have to save it and can try to work with it again later when you’ve mastered the skills you need to use.

If you don’t have any photos you want to use yet, go ahead and take some photos just for use with Photoshop. You will want to shoot photos in the RAW format if it’s available on your camera. This is the largest file type for the camera and the photos will take up more room on your computer, but it includes the most information in the photo so you can do major adjustments without a decline in quality.

If you really want to learn to photoshop like a pro, you’ll need to remember to put plenty of time into learning about the various tools and what they can do. You may want to learn some of the shortcuts the pros use and find out what tips pros can offer that can help you learn to do more.

Pros did not start doing amazing art with photoshop in a day and you won’t either. That’s okay. Check out the workshops and tutorials that are available so you can learn as much as possible.
