"Hopmanay" Scottish Micro-Brew Beer Labels

A good friend of mine (and excellent brewer currently working towards his PhD) is currently teaching a few of us how to brew beer. We have a cottage booked for a week-long New Year's getaway in the Lake District, and we plan to brew a few (okay, a lot of) bottles for the trip away. So what better lettering project than a label for these beers?

(For those who don't know: "Hogmanay" is the Scots word for the last day of the year, and so New Year's Eve is often referred to as Hogmanay in Edinburgh and across Scotland. Hence, for the beers, "Hopmanay" - everyone loves a good pun.)

We are all based in Edinburgh, Scotland, which has an incredibly strong tradition of beer brewing, and there are so many excellent small brewing companies in Scotland that inspiration leaps out at you every time you go for a pint. I particularly like the labels of Scottish favourites Innis and Gunn, and the fantastic graphic design of the Edinburgh-based Williams Bros. Brew Company, which has such great titles as Kelpie Seaweed Ale and Joker IPA. Many of these designs are based on vintage labels themselves, and doing more research on vintage beer labelling was a lot of fun.
