Home Sweet Home

I started this project in the First Steps of Hand-Lettering, so my initial steps are posted there. Now on to digitizing!

Step 1: Scan Inked Image and Digitize

I ended up doing the entire computer process in Photoshop because I wasn't happy with how the Image Trace function was working in Illustrator. So it took a little longer to digitize and separate everhting in to layers.

Step 2: Add Color

I spent forever playing with colors. These are some of my first palettes.

Step 3: Back to the Drawing Board

After seeing my lettering printed, I decide to redraw "Sweet" for the second time. I wanted to thicken the thick areas. I also added swirls to the top and bottom to help fill the space, and some detail to the peaches.

Step 4: Texture

I had a lot of fun playing with paint and other art supplies I haven't touched recently.

Step 5: Final Tweaks

At this stage, I kept going back and critiquing little details. And I was still deciding between two colors for the first "Home."

Step 6: Final Piece

After a lot of little tweaks, I finally got to a place where I was satisfied. So here is my finished project! Thanks Mary Kate!

I decided to animate my project in After Effects, so here is the animation. Enjoy!
