Holiday Theme and Winter Wear

I found the model Melissa Kat through a photography Meetup Group. She an her partner started Muse Model Managament, a photo workshop group down in central Florida that mainly focuses on nude modeling. Though for this shoot it was more of a fashion shoot and we were in a public park, with families and people with dogs walking around, so it wouldn't be appropiate.

It was an outdoor setting using natural light and like the title of my project, the theme was about winter wear and the holidays. We shot early in the morning to get that good soft light.

The pictures were taken with my modest Nikon D3200, with the 55m to 200m zoom lens kit, but I think I get the best that I can from that camera. For post processing I used a combination of Bridge for sorting and ranking, Lightroom for basic photo editing and VSCO filters, and Photoshop to do some face retouching. Like Van Styles, I'm still used to Camera Raw and Photoshop, but I do like the simplicity of Lightroom.

Besides taking portraits of friends and family, check out some of my portraits here, this was my first time working with an actual professional model, so at first I wasn't feeling as confident and didn't really direct her. But as we went through the sessions and starting talking with the model a bit more, I started to loosen up a bit, got more confident and got better ideas of what I wanted.

So here's the set. Hope you guys enjoy them. Feedback and critiques are welcome. I'll be posting three of these on Instagram depending on the reactions.
