High Priestess of Sorcery

I've been wanting to create a very elegant and evil priestess for a long time, but I didn't really know where to start. I've never done a character from start to finish with this process, and I'm glad I enrolled in this class so I could give it a try! Actually, I don't think I've ever done a full character before... I've only painted portraits of characters. I'm still kinda new to concept art and digital painting.

I really wanted to challenge myself by not using references, so these thumbnails all came from imagination.

These thumbnails really helped! At first I was a litle stiff with them but by the end I feel that I really got the hang of movement. I didn't think it would be fun at first haha but I did enjoy this part.

I incorporated lots of sharp/pointy edges to signify "dangerous". I know I've still got a lot of anatomy issues to sort out but I plan on doing that next! Right now I'm focusing on 1, 3, and 10. Any suggestions??

Based on the suggestions, I decided to further refine 3, 10, and 12. They're still rough, but I'm pretty positive I'm going to keep going with the middle character. I'll give her some more variations, maybe add some movement with the hair and dress. I'm excited to work her up more! :)

So I've got a few different variations, I'm just trying to give her a different feel while still remaining true to my objective. They're still pretty rough. I'm really unsure of where to go now... suggestions? I'm leaning towards 1 and 4.

Going into this project I knew I wanted to do a full-on color rendering of this character. I knew I wouldn't use the refined thumbs as the basis of my final render, but rather I used them as costume ideas and room to play around before jumping in on the deep end.

This is a quick sketch outlining the basic structure of my character and pose. I'm still adjusting anatomy issues but I wanted to post this WIP to show the direction that I'm going.  Oh, and I chose #4 to reference from!

I just started blocking in the basic colors. Initially I had the idea of her in a navy dress with a neon greenish orb, but I decided to go with these colors in the spirit of Halloween since it's only a few weeks away. :) I still have a ton to do! Refine it further, add details, etc. I will probably change the shape of the staff.
