Henry | Skillshare Projects

The first decision was picking a character I might be able to draw. All my drawing is manual, I have little software for this type of activity.

I thought about comic characters who are familiar to me. That meant going back a decade or two - or three?. My first thought was Archie but I doubted I could draw him - distorted or not. Then Dick Tracy, then Little Lulu and finally realized Henry was mostly basic shapes. For those who have never heard of him, here's a photo of a Henry comic book cover.

Henry was a mild little fellow so I decided to buff him up and give him a sly smile rather than bland innocence.

Here's my plan.

Hopefully, before the week is over, I'll have the new Henry posted. (And maybe Dick Tracy. I haven't quite given up on him.)

Here's my revised Henry. He's more buff in stature and has stronger character in his face. Hopefully I made him look more formidable but not evil. (Dick Tracy isn't going to happen. Life gets in the way.)

This was a great class. I learned a lot about the way proportion alters character. Thanks, Brian.
