Hatching Practice

Hatching Practice - student project

One of my art goals is to be better at pen and ink. I have a lot of dip pens and will be making a reference sheet for them because this excersie was really handy! For this sheet I just used the pens I had which, as it turned out, was a lot of brush pens!

I used to have a full set of Stadtler liners that I used for EVERYTHING but then the baby got to them and destroyed most of them. Anyway, here's my page.

Step 2: Hatching practice

My grid is bigger because I can't count, clearly. Anyway! I used that extra space to experiment with color. The bottom row is are two color experiments and the side row is black with one other color. I don't have a very steady hand and have difficulty pulling straight lines. I'll never be Ink Master at this rate! (reality TV reference!)

Final project: Unbothered no 1

I did some hatching on the straw and the shirt but it turned out to be a lot more stippling than anything but I started for this class. I was going for like an imperfect on purpose 90s zine look.
