Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban - Letter "A"

After writing down a few of my favourite books, including Outlander, To Kill a Mockingbird and Pride and Prejudice, I also wrote down my favourite of the Harry Potter series, the Prisoner of Azkaban. Immediately I was struck with a lot of possibilites for imagery so that is the book I decided to go with, illustrating the letter "A". I realize Jessica's original project illustrated the first letter of the author's last name, but with a series of 7 books they would all have the same letter on the cover, so I'm going with "A".

I'm trying to not think too much on the movie imagery and focus on the book, which of course has so much more detail. I will have to go home tonight and re-read a few of the chapters to get more into book mode, and try to shake down the core of the story and get to the symbolism I want to portray in the letter. So far I am getting a strong feeling for some kind of prison-like detail, and for one of the animals that feature prominently, either the hippogriff Buckbeak or Harry's Patronus, the stag.

I did a few quick interpretations, the A with barbed wire wrapping around it, the A with a broom for a leg and the A as the island prison. I like the A with the barbed wire but think it's kind of obvious. There is something I really like about the island A too, I think it could be interesting, dark and sinister, although I think it's really simple and doesn't stretch my design muscles too much.

I will see what I come up with after I read some of the book too.
