Hand Stitched Leather Wallet

Excellent to do project, easy for beginners.  Below you will get  an explanation of everything I used. ( It took me a while trying to understand the list the teacher recommends). Hope it help you!

I used a Single Shoulder vegetable tanned leather 4/5 oz from Tandy Leather. One of the wallets was stained with Eco-Flo Stain and Finish “Desert tan”. This product have a matte finish,  so I polished it with Fiebing’s Natural Carnauba Creme to get that lustrous shine.

The brown thread used in the tan wallet is brown waxed thread  from Tandy Leather and the other one  is 4ply waxed linen thread “Fuchsia” from Royalwood Ltd.   Both stitched with John James Saddles Harness Needles Size  002.

Sewing is easier if you use a stitching pony, I got one handmade in the USA, at a good price  and quality on Ebay.

I did not  use the best quality of  veg tanned leather because is  my first project and I knew I was going to make mistakes, leather shows some marks from the hide. But Tandy Leather carries also  beautiful veg tanned leathers. You do not need to buy a big piece of hide, Tandy also sells a 8”x11” tooling leather piece that is exactly what you need for this project.

As a recommendation, get the leather the teacher recommends (2/3oz) because mine was a little harder to work and at the time of construction I have to skive  the interior pocket to fit and close properly.

Screwback Button Studs are from Tandy Leather, size Small.

All edges were softened with a Dremel rotary tool with a sanding wheel.

The stitching is the best and most relaxing part!
