Hand Lettered Jalapeno

This project was so fun.  For one of my husband's Christmas presents, I made a hand lettered jalapeno.  He is a manager at Chipotle so I thought this would be a fun way to display the characteristics that Chipotle looks for in their employees as a decoration for his office.  I opted to use the raw wood with sharpies to reflect the home grown look that most of Chipotle's marketing has.

I started with doing a very rough sketch and making sure that I had all the characteristics.  This effort was short lived when I realized that there was just no comparison between a few inch sketch and an 18" wood cutout.


Next, I traced the wood cutout and did an initial layout (the upside down one) followed by a more refined sketch (the upright one).  Once I was happy with that version, I attempted to transfer the lettering to the wood using graphite paper, however the graphite paper did not transfer at all onto the wood and just made a mess all over the sketches and me.
