Grocery list

Grocery list - student project

I am still in hard lockdown in Melbourne so a lot of my shopping lately is coming from the garden (such a privilege). I was quite happy with the use of colour and directional line on this one. It might be my favourite. But, I really need to better plan the title so it doesn’t end up squished in the bottom.

More fennel! Here I tried to be more intentional with the title and drew it In the centre first which worked. I also liked what happened when I held back with the black pen and simplified the design of the Apple.

Some new pens arrived just before I fre this. I love how my writing looks in the Tombow Fudenosuke! I used Dylan’s idea of drawing the clothes slightly folded and love how it turned out. I didn’t plan the composition very well and ended up with a weird gap, but luckily it was just the right size for a mask which I do indeed keep wearing!

This was the first drawing where I felt like I really hit my stride. Using a finer pen, a more reduced colour palate and actually laying the items out in front of me helped me get a composition I was happy with. I also like the two textures of pen: a fat posca and a fine brush pen. I feel like the lettering could use some improvement here.

Green and pink seem to be my favourite colours to work with.

Realising I can draw relatively detailed drawings without pencilling first like I did here has been so liberating, even if the squares turned out super uneven! I need to let things overlap the frames more.

I’m happy with the details and colours here but again wish I’d been more intentional with the lettering.

it was really hard to think of things other than food for this one!
