Grapes & Leaves

Getting Started

I am working with a friend to design her wedding suite. We are doing invitaitons, a program, placecards, and table numbers/names all with grapes and grapeleaves design.

We started with pintrest board of the bride and groom's ideas of what they liked:

Their keywords included:

  • Grapes
  • Vines
  • Leaves
  • Vinyard
  • Elegant
  • Classic
  • Clean
  • Not Rustic

I then created my own version of a mood board with pintrest based on their suggestions & what I was finding, thematically. It included refreence pictures, my own doodles, and other samples from around the web.

Then I began drawing grapes and grape leaves and grape vines.. A LOT. I got a little obsessed.

I did all of that before I started this class, but I used many of the principles MaJo suggests and I am grateful for her suggestions of how to evolve a design concept. I will definitely be using that on my next project where I need to create a concept & theme.

For this course, I am planning to utlize the information to create a repeating pattern primarily for use on the program. We plan to print the pattern on a special paper and use it as a backer board for the program pages.

Because I plan to follow through with the course and upload to spoonflower, the bride will then later be able to order fabric with her own wedding pattern. She liked the idea of creating some pillows with fabric to go in their new house, since they like the aubergine color so much, they are planning to do an accent wall with the color.

We'll see how it all works out!

Update - I created the pattern - and after talking things over with the bride, we decided to go in a different direction for the program. The program needed to be in booklet format, so we changed things up!

However, she may still want to use the pattern, or I may use it to buy her some fabric from spoonflower as a wedding gift. So here it is:
