I really enjoyed this course! I have been to a couple of gouache workshops, but this course was great at really breaking down some different techniques and Leah had a nice clear way of explaining things.
This is probably my favourite piece from this course. It started out as the line drawing exercise, but it spiralled! As well as playing with lines (thick/thin/wobbly) and my brush, I also began playing with different angles of the orange, the balance of solid colour vs. line, colour mixing and layering/overlapping.
I also had fun with the graphic shapes technique - so bright, bold and playful!
My least favourite technique was the wet on wet. I found myself struggling with all the things that I usually struggle with when I use normal watercolour paints - too much water, not enough water, too much paint, too many colours, overworked...
In my final still life I tried to incorporate elements of all three techniques, but at the same time create some sort of balance... not sure if I managed that, but I had fun doing this and bringing some of my learning together in one piece! Also wasn't sure what to do about the background/shadows. Maybe I should have put the veg on a tea towel or something, to create some context.
I really enjoyed the course! It has given me some new tools and experiences to play with, as I continue to experiment with gouache. Thank you Leah!
